Pope Leo, President Trump, and King Jesus

Following social media posts over the last couple of weeks has been interesting. With the election of Leo XIV, various pundits from the United States and Europe have been trying to claim ownership of the new pope. Those on the left have identified him as a woke social warrior. Those on the right claim that he is the high priest of the MAGA movement. Politics always tries to co-opt religion because politicians consider themselves to be semi-divine. When we become intoxicated by the politics of our time, we should read Psalm 2 on a daily basis. The heathen may rage, but Yahweh rules.

Why the Pope Matters to All Christians

With the death of Pope Francis, and the upcoming conclave to elect the next Pope, all eyes are on Rome. This will be the fifth papal conclave in my memory.  I remember the election of John Paul I and his unexpected death just a month later. In October 1978, the world was introduced to Karol Wojtyła, archbishop of Krakow, Poland as John Paul II. He served as Pope until his death in 2005 and is now revered as St. John Paul II the Great. He is widely remembered as one of the most influential Christian leaders of the twentieth century.
