Yes, We Need Sunday Evening Church!
I don’t wish to be dogmatic. Nor do I embrace traditionalism for its own sake. But, I do believe there are legitimate reasons for churches to offer Sunday evening services. Sunday is the primary day of worship for Christians – it is the Lord’s Day. Churches should offer multiple opportunites for believers to worship, pray, fellowship, and receive instruction in the Word.
Postmodern Stories Need to be Judged by God’s Truth
A tongue-in-cheek exercise in postmodern hermeneutics
What is truth? Is there truth? Or, are there many truths? Postmodernism asserts that there is no single truth that should command the attention of humanity. Instead, humanity consists of various tribes, each with its on tribal story, and each story is an equally valid truth. But then again, maybe not. Core Values for Ministry Leadership
I am currently team-teaching a leadership class with Dr. Lamar Vest, former presiding bishop of the Church of God (Cleveland, TN). In a recent assignment, Dr. Vest asked our students to prepare a brief presentation about their core values. Everyone leads (or misleads) from their core values. I decided to participate in the assignment.
A Compromised Sexual Ethic
In recent years we have been overwhelmed with a flood of sexual immorality in the church. The Roman Catholic Church has a long standing crisis with homosexual priests (see here, here, and here). Mainline Protestants have virtually surrendered the concept of a Christian sexual morality. Evangelical, Pentecostal and Charismatic churches struggle as well. Even as conservative churches half-heartedly promote a traditional sexual ethic it is being compromised from pulpit to pew.
